Effective Feb 20: Macau Cancels All Ferries To/From Shekou
20 Feb 2020
The Shekou Cruise Home Port announced last night that due to the adjustment of the inspection policy in Macau (which requires a 14-day quarantine for all non-resident workers entering from mainland China), all voyages on the Macau line to and from Shekou will be suspended indefinitely from February 20. Any resumption of service will be announced at a later date.
Free refunds will be provided to those with tickets. Passengers holding online tickets can apply for a full refund directly online. Passengers holding printed tickets should go to the ticketing center on the second floor of the port to request a refund.
What's Left Open?
Ferry service is still available between Shekou and Bao'an International Airport and Zhuhai; and between Shekou and Hong Kong International Airport.
For those still wanting to go to Macau, the Gongbei Port - 拱北口岸, and Hengqin Port - 横琴口岸 land ports are currently still open for crossing. Since Feb 10, the daily passenger throughput at Gongbei Checkpoint averaged about 40,000 with roughly 2.2 million passengers having crossed since Jan 23.

However, it is important to note that some airlines aren't set up to use it and some airlines are not accepting passengers coming from mainland China, so be sure to check with your airline before booking a ticket.

Zhuhai/Macau Ports & Ferries
The open hours at Gongbei Checkpoint were shortened to 6 am to 10 pm starting Jan 27, while opening-closing times at other checkpoints remain unchanged for the time being in order to reduce mass gatherings and contain the novel coronavirus outbreak, according to the Zhuhai government.
Service frequency of passenger ferryboats between the temporary Wanzai Checkpoint on South Nanwan Road to Macao's Inner Harbor Terminal (Yuet Tung Pier) were reduced to every 30 minutes from 7 am to 10 pm from Jan 26.

SAFETY ADVISORY:
Please note that this ferry closure, whether intended or not, will result in a funnelling of everyone going from mainland China to Macau through the ports in Zhuhai. Due to this, you should take extra precautionary measures to ensure your safety and protection against virus infections.
